The project aimed to address the issue of excessive heat gain in offices situated behind high-level windows. These spaces were experiencing increased temperatures due to the high levels of solar radiation entering through the glass, which not only affected occupant comfort but also contributed to higher cooling costs.
The Challenge
The high-level windows, while providing ample natural light, were allowing an excessive amount of solar heat to penetrate the office areas. The glass type used was particularly susceptible to heat transmission, thereby necessitating a solution that would effectively mitigate the issue without compromising the benefits of daylight.
The Solution
To tackle this challenge, we supplied and installed a silver reflective film to the external surface of the windows. This film was specifically chosen for its high reflectivity and compatibility with the existing glass type. By reflecting a significant portion of the incoming solar radiation, the film successfully reduced the heat gain, helping to maintain a more comfortable indoor environment while still allowing natural light to enhance the workspace.
Benefits and Outcomes
- Reduced Heat Gain: The reflective film substantially decreased the amount of solar heat entering the offices, creating a cooler and more comfortable working environment.
- Enhanced Energy Efficiency: By minimising the reliance on air conditioning, the installation contributed to lower energy consumption and operational costs.
- Maintained Natural Lighting: The solution preserved the benefits of natural daylight, ensuring that the offices remained well-lit without the adverse effects of excessive heat.
The installation of the silver reflective film represents an effective and elegant solution to the problem of heat gain through high-level windows. By carefully considering the glass type and the specific environmental challenges, we were able to improve indoor comfort and energy efficiency, ensuring a more pleasant and sustainable working environment for the office occupants.
