This project was initiated with the goal of transforming a bright, glazed roof space into a safe and comfortable environment for children. Excessive natural light and glare were making the area unsuitable for rest periods, and the crèche required a practical yet effective solution to create a calming atmosphere that would allow children to sleep during the day.

The Challenge

The main challenge was that the glazed roof, while visually impressive, allowed in too much light. This made the space overly bright and uncomfortable, particularly at nap times. Reducing glare without compromising the overall structure or creating a dark, unwelcoming room required a solution that was subtle, effective, and long-lasting.

The Solution

To address the issue, we installed a specialist whiteout film across the entire roof area. This film was carefully selected for its ability to block out light and reduce glare, instantly transforming the environment. By applying the film directly to the glazing, we were able to provide a clean and consistent finish that blended seamlessly with the existing structure.

Benefits and Outcomes

  • Enhanced Comfort: The reduction in light levels created a peaceful, calming environment, making the space much more suitable for children to rest and sleep.

  • Improved Functionality: A previously unusable area was transformed into a practical, comfortable part of the crèche, maximising available space.

  • Long-Term Solution: The whiteout film provided a durable fix that continues to perform effectively without requiring frequent maintenance.

  • Aesthetic Consistency: The clean white finish of the film ensured the roof maintained a bright, modern look, complementing the surrounding architecture.

The successful installation of whiteout film at West Country School Crèche is a strong example of how a simple yet expertly applied solution can have a transformative impact. By drastically reducing glare and creating a restful environment, we helped the school provide children with a safe and comfortable space to sleep, ensuring the building works better for its everyday use.
