This project was initiated to restore performance and appearance on the end elevation glazing of a school swimming pool hall. The existing solar control film had delaminated, leaving visible streaking and reducing its effectiveness. The brief was to remove the failed film and replace it with a high quality solution that would control heat and glare while smartening the look of the façade.

The Challenge

Access to the tall, inclined glazing was complex within a warm, humid pool environment. Works needed to be completed safely over the mezzanine and around daily school operations, with great care taken to protect glass, timber mullions, and surrounding finishes during film removal.

The Solution

We delivered a controlled removal and refit. The team carefully stripped the delaminated film, cleaned the substrate to neutralise adhesive, then installed a silver reflective solar film chosen for strong solar heat and glare reduction with a crisp, uniform appearance. Sections were installed in sequence using appropriate access equipment and protection measures agreed with the school.

Benefits and Outcomes

  • Restored performance: Noticeable reduction in solar heat gain and glare, improving comfort for pupils, staff, and spectators.

  • Refreshed aesthetics: The silver reflective finish provides a clean, consistent look inside and out, replacing the streaked appearance caused by delamination.

  • Daytime privacy: Subtle reflectivity offers privacy without sacrificing natural light.

  • Low disruption: Careful sequencing and access planning kept the pool hall safe and operational.

  • Durability: Quality film and thorough substrate preparation support long term performance and easier maintenance.

The successful removal and replacement of the failed glazing film at Berkshire School Swimming Pool shows how precise access planning and specialist installation deliver lasting improvements in comfort, appearance, and usability.
